Using your computer for memory projects.
A photo pillow makes a great gift for a child.
I made one for my daughter. On the front is a baby picture of herself. The back is soft flannel. Four years later, she still takes it with her where ever she goes and insists on sleeping with it.
Making a photo quilt block:
You need a computer, printer, and photo editing software. A scanner is also helpful but not necessary.
Getting the images into your computer-
1. Scan your favorite photo.
2. Take a picture and request a disc from your photo processor.
3. Ask someone with a scanner to scan your photo and save it to a disc or e-mail it to you.
Editing your photo-
Any photo editing software will do - most computers include a program in their software packages. You can crop your photo, adjust lighting and color, remove red eye, etc. Important...Remember to flip the image. If you don't, when you iron your transfer on to fabric, it will be backwards.
Transfers
Print your image onto a photo transfer sheet. Available in computer stores or office supply stores. Follow manufacturers instructions for applying the transfer and washing instructions.
Printing onto Fabric-
You can also print your image directly onto fabric. Iron your fabric (muslin or broad cloth work well) onto freezer paper. Trim to 8 1/2 X 11 so that It fits into your printer. Be aware however that color ink from ink jet printers is not permanent. You will not be able to clean your project. Therefore, I do not recommend using this method for a photo quilt or pillow.***

***I recently learned from a visitor that there are new products on the market called Bubble Jet Set and Bubble Jet Rinse. I have not yet tried these products, but I am told that you wash your fabric in this product and the ink will permanently bond to your fabric. |
